Abbotsford Christian School claims three track and field titles at championship

Christian Schools Championship brought Lower Mainland athletes together at Rotary Stadium on April 25

Despite the poor weather conditions, Abbotsford Christian School (ACS) persevered to win the senior boys, girls and overall title at the Christian Schools Championship for track and field on April 25.

The senior girls ran away with the division win, beating Mennonite Educational Institute (MEI) and Langley Christian School (LCS) by a large margin. The senior boys narrowly beat MEI and Credo Christian. With the two big wins ACS secured enough points to win the overall ‘AA’ title, beating out MEI and Pacific Academy.

“It was great to connect with athletes and coaches from our sister schools,” ACS teacher Joanne Friesen said. “Spirits remained high all day despite the challenging conditions.”

It is a return to glory for ACS who lost the overall title last year to Pacific Academy. They had earned the overall honour 16 years in a row, from 2005 to 2019 and 2022. COVID-19 cancelled the 2020 meet and there was no competition in 2021.

ACS now heads to the Abbotsford Invitational as they look to set their times, throws and jumps in preparation for the Eastern Valley Athletic Association Zone Championship at Rotary Stadium on May 23 and 24.
