Abbotsford Rugby Football Club captures men’s division one provincial crown

ARFC completes comeback victory over Vancouver Rowing Club with 29-28 win on Saturday

A dramatic comeback led to title dreams realized for the Abbotsford Rugby Football Club in the men’s division one final in Burnaby on Saturday (May 4).

ARFC trailed 28-10 to Vancouver Rowing Club, but the locals continued chipping away at that lead and were only down 28-22 in the game’s final minutes.

A last second try made it a 28-27 margin and then Gavin Rowell made a clutch conversion to deliver the championship to ARFC. The full game will be available to watch on BC Rugby’s YouTube channel later this week.

This marks the first men’s division one championship for ARFC since 2016. ARFC also captured a women’s division one crown in 2019.

Saturday BC Rugby Senior Club Finals also saw the following teams crowned:

  • UBCOB Ravens (men’s premier league)
  • Vancouver Thunderbirds (women’s premier league)
  • UBCOB Ravens (men’s premier reserve league)
