The Abbotsford Hospice and Grief Support Society (AHGSS) raised more than $200,000 at its annual Moments of Hope Gala on April 6.
The theme for the sold-out event, held at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Centre, was Bollywood meets Hollywood.
The evening was hosted by MCs Alex Mitchell, CEO of the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, and Arsh Kaler, president of Smiles Through Seva Foundation.
Guest speakers were Mayor Ross Siemens; Shawna Vandeven from Co-operators, the presenting sponsor; Kam Grewal, board director for AHGSS; Ryan Calder, board chair; and Dr. Chantal Chris from the Pain and Symptom Management/Palliative Care Clinic at BC Cancer – Abbotsford.
The funds raised at the gala go towards addressing the diverse and cultural needs of the community and to help with much-needed infrastructure maintenance of Holmberg House, Abbotsford’s hospice.
AHGSS executive director Andrea Critchley said the success of the event was due to the generosity of sponsors, donors, guest, volunteers and the gala committee.
“This was our most successful gala in our history and is a testament to the generosity of our supportive community and how we work together to care for each other. Thank you to everyone involved,” she said.
