The City of Abbotsford hosts several sessions in May and is holding an online survey for the public to share thoughts on the city’s future growth through an update to the Official Community Plan (OCP).

The OCP is the city’s key plan for land-use management and development. The updated plan will be used to address the needs of current and future residents and businesses by guiding how growth and new development takes place in Abbotsford over the next 25 years.

The city said it wants to hear from the public to better understand the opportunities and challenges facing Abbotsford today to ensure the updated OCP reflects and represents key goals for the city’s future.

The public is invited to share their perspective on a variety of long-term planning considerations, such as increasing housing supply; encouraging investment in Abbotsford’s residential and commercial mixed-use centres; and opportunities to coordinate transportation and parks with residential growth.

City staff will be on hand to hear feedback, discuss ideas and answer questions at the open-house-style information sessions, which take place:

• Saturday, May 11 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Sevenoaks Shopping Centre (near Purdy’s Chocolates);

• Thursday, May 16 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mountain elementary;

• Saturday, May 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Open Space Gallery at 33765 Essendene Ave. (previously Hemingway’s Books); and

• Friday, May 31 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Highstreet Shopping Centre in the main plaza near Cineplex Cinemas.

The online survey runs from May 11 to June 7 at letstalkabbotsford.ca/ocp.
