Yale senior boys rugby wins provincial championship in all-Abbotsford final

Match featured Yale Secondary and Abbotsford Senior Secondary on Saturday (June 1)

Yale Secondary School’s senior boys rugby team beat Abbotsford Senior Secondary for the 3A tier two BC School Sports provincial title on Saturday (June 1).

Despite both teams having home field advantage at Abbotsford Exhibition Park, the Yale Lions won by a dominant 14-0 final score.

Yale won all three games they played in, beating Mount Boucherie in the quarter-finals and Riverside in the semifinals.

Yale was one of two schools in Abbotsford to earn provincial titles. Robert Bateman Secondary School junior boys were crowned the best in the province on Friday (May 31).

Two other Abbotsford rugby programs played in championship games on Saturday (June 1). Yale senior girls earned a silver medal after losing to Gleneagle Secondary School 21-0 in the 3A championship final.

Robert Bateman 2A senior boys lost the tier one final 24-5 to Collingwood School.

In other medal game action, Robert Bateman senior girls won 39-12 over Mark Isfeld Secondary School to earn a bronze medal.

The annual tournament was hosted from May 29 to June 1.
